Celebrating 30 Years of Service and a Special Tribute to a Community Champion

On July 18th, 2025, Flexi Queensland proudly celebrated a major milestone—30 years of dedicated service to the Burdekin community. What began as a local initiative has grown into a cornerstone of disability support in the region, and this special anniversary was a moment to reflect, appreciate, and look ahead.
Honouring a Legacy: Introducing the Petersen Hangout
As part of the celebration, Flexi Queensland was honoured to pay tribute to one of our founding Board Members, Maryann Petersen—a name well-known and deeply respected throughout the region.
Many will recognise Maryann from her work at The Job Shop in Ayr, a 100% locally owned and family-operated business established in 2004. For over 21 years, The Job Shop has been a vital resource across Townsville, Burdekin, and Charters Towers—providing essential First Aid training, supplies, and community support.
In recognition of Maryann’s remarkable contributions, the building formerly known as the Therapy and Activity Centre has been officially renamed the Petersen Hangout. The new name reflects not only her legacy but also the warmth, inclusiveness, and spirit of community that Maryann embodies. Our new sign now proudly stands at the end of Queen Street on Chippendale, marking this exciting new chapter.
